Joanna Callaghan, Chiropractor

Registered Doctor of Chiropractic (MChiro)

Jo's interest in the body and movement was born from her passion for dance. It was when she sustained an injury herself and visited various practitioners that she realised the importance of viewing the body holistically.

This inspired her to become a clinician and treat other individuals who had encountered injury or pain. She completed her four-year training in her hometown of Bournemouth at AECC University College. During which she worked within the University clinic treating patients from a wide range of ages and backgrounds.

Jo enjoys taking an individualised approach to the care of her patients. Techniques she uses include spinal manipulation, fascial release and acupuncture.

When she’s not at work you can find her running and cycling along London’s canals, as well as sampling as many of the London bakeries as possible (recommendations welcome)!

Dance

Jo trained as a Royal Ballet Associate from the age of 9, later attending vocational dance school for three years and performing in various projects around the country.

It was when she sustained an ankle injury herself that she realised the physical and mental strain experienced when an injury is preventing you from being at the top of your game. This also sparked her interest of foot and ankle biomechanics.

She has a special interest in ankle and foot rehabilitation, and combines a number of techniques and exercises to optimise lower chain biomechanics after injury.

Paediatrics

During her time at the University clinic, Jo undertook a paediatric placement. This involved working to triage children who presented to the clinic and treat those with whom chiropractic care was deemed suitable. She particularly enjoyed working with teenagers with postural issues that may be affecting their school life.

As well as this, she worked alongside midwives and lactation consultants as part of the multidisciplinary feeding clinic. Through this, she treated babies with minor musculoskeletal complaints that may be impacting their feeding or digestion.

If you considering chiropractic care for your child but you are not sure, Jo is happy to do a free 15 minute consultation to discuss.
